As far as I'm aware, only one price increase is on the books... anyone who was on a Grandfathered Extreme price will soon be increased to the current price...

Thats not news - thats been known for about 6 months now.

Considering that Rogers is already more expensive than most providers, they'd be hurting themseves to increase any further.

If that's the case (price increase for grandfathered accounts), does this also mean that we can expect a corresponding bump in speed (from 5Mb/s to 6 Mb/S) and an official increase in cap from 60 GB to 100 GB.

Time will tell I suppose.

That is my understanding....

http://www.shoprogers.com/store/cable/internetcontent/compare.asp

ULTRA-LITE $24.95
60 GB

LITE Modem rental included $34.95
60 GB

EXPRESS Modem rental included $44.95
60 GB

EXTREME Modem rental included $46.95 + $3.00 modem rental or $99.95 modem purchase
100 GB

Rogers doesn't grandfather services/prices. It's just billing screw-ups. Once they fix the screw-ups, they go back to screwing the customer.

Extreme price hasnt changed (modem rental might have - I dunno - I bought mine when the DOCSIS 2.0 capabilities became available)

Why do you think this is different?

Rogers is telling people when they call in to their call centre, that the prices are going up on March 1 (or around that date). Their excuse is that the network has grown so big that they need to increase rates for cable and internet to cover their expenses. They say it's a fair trade off for the services they provide.

Ya I got a notice in the mail detailing the rate increases
I called them about it. I was able to get the magazine removed from my bill so I saved $2 there so after the rate increses I'm only paying $1 and change more then what I was before.

Hi, I haven't gotten any notice about rate increases, does anybody know what they will be?

I too, pay $40.89/mnth for High-Speed Extreme, but that's because of the bundles.

This postcard arrived in my mailbox today:

Important Information About Your Rogers(TM) Cable Rates

January 16, 2023

Dear Valued Customer,

Please note that effective March 1, 2006, your invoice will itemize the Internet service fee and modem rental charge separately. The new monthly service rate for Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet Lite will be $31.95 and the rental modem $3.00. We would like to point out that this modification will change the taxes which apply to your account. Your Internet service will continue to be subject to the GST, while the modem rental will be subject to both the GST and PST. This billing change will provide customers with the option to purchase their modems. If you decide to purchase your modem, you will no longer pay the monthly rental charge and its applicable taxes.

If you have any questions, please contact us at rogers.com or 1 888 ROGERS1. Please note that these charges will be reflected on your next invoice after March 1, 2006.

Rogers is committed to providing you with excellent online content and features, superior customer service support and telephone access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and in-home service appointments within a three-hour window.

We thank you for being a Rogers customer.

Sincerely,
Rogers Cable

Express is going up to $43.95 + $3 modem rental. Will be bumped up to 5Mbs not long after rate increase. Lite has already been bumped 1Mbs down 256 K up. Extreme is going to be discontinued, and there will be something newer faster, bigger, badder, better to follow (10 Mbs ???)

YOu can buy your modem for any service and save $3/mth, unless you live in Newfoundland, in which case just keep suckin' back the screech!
